A group of 19 Catholic youth leaders were injured, seven of them seriously, after a bus they were traveling in careered off the road and into a gully near the town of Murcia, in Negros Occidental province on Saturday. "The brakes on the bus were faulty and we fell 10 meters into a gully," said Father Boboy Lopez who was with the group from the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Cebu City. The youth leaders and the priest were on their way to Mambukal Resort and Retreat House in Negros Occidental for a two-day leadership training course. Authorities said the place where the bus left the road is notorious for accidents. The students were taken to hospital in Bacolod City where they are recovering.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
