Nine Catholics teaching mathematics at the Canossian-run elementary, junior and senior high schools in Manleuana, Dili, recently attended a training program aiming to improve their teaching methods and quality.
During the May 15-20 program jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), the math teachers paid attention to talks delivered by two staff from the ministry and three members of SEAMEO from Yogyakarta.
“It is hoped that through the training program, the teachers can find the teaching methods which will help their students enjoy learning math,” Canossian Sister Cecilia Freitas said.
She continued that the program also aimed at helping the teachers to encourage their students to love exact sciences including mathematics.
Olivia Zenderella, a participant, welcomed the program since it motivated her to find the teaching methods and to implement them. “We got valuable experience, which is the teaching methods which will we use,” she said.
