A Catholic campaign of giving went out live on national TVyesterday. The Babo Nanum (“fool’s sharing”) festival took place in front of Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul archdiocese. The event was established last year in memory of the late Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-whan. Cardinal Kim, Korea’s first cardinal, referred to himself as a “fool” by sharing his love with the poor. He died in 2009 at the age of 86. Huh Jin-ho, chief producer of the show, said: “I tried to show Cardinal Kim’s sharing to help viewers understand it easily.” Participants and viewers joined in fundraising phone calls for help for the needy, contributing 5,000 won (about US$4.50) per call during the two-and-half hour show. Also, many celebrities and entertainers including Olympic figure skating champion Stella Kim Yu-na and singer Paul Kim Tae-won joined in the festival. Singer Kim said, “We should always share with the poor, not only during this one-time event.” “Because Jesus loves all of us,” he stressed.
