Bishop Joseph Coutts of Faisalabad has been elected as the new president of Pakistan Catholic Bishop’s Conference. The decision was taken after the meeting of eight bishops last week at Bishop’s house in Multan, Punjab province. “It was challenging”, said the outgoing Archbishop Lawrence J. Saldanha of Lahore, who remained as the head of Church for 9 years. “The situation in the country became difficult after 9/11; Pakistan engaged in a war against terror and the extremism increased”, he said. Bishop Joseph Coutts also serves as the national director of Caritas Pakistan and is renowned for interfaith dialogue with Muslim majority. PA13815.1647
