Police in southern Surigao del Norte province said today that burglars ransacked a church in the town of Sison and stole $500 in donations from parishioners.
The robbers forced a window to break into the church in this far-flung corner of Mindanao on Tuesday, police said, adding that a recent rise in thefts and robberies has left residents concerned.
Most burglaries at churches in the Philippines have happened in and around bigger cities in recent years.
Earlier this year, police killed two suspected robbers who broke into a parish church in Quezon City.
