The governor of East Nusa Tenggara province has asked bishops serving two archdioceses and six dioceses in the Nusa Tenggara region for their help in promoting a national economic development program. The program, called the Master Plan for the Acceleration of Indonesia’s Economic Development (MP3EI), began in May last year and is aimed at achieving high, balanced, fair and sustainable economic growth across the country. “In order to make the program a success, the government, of course, cannot work alone. We need support and must build cooperation with all prominent leaders in this region, including bishops,” Fransiskus Lebu Raya said yesterday during a meeting with the bishops in Kupang, the provincial capital. According to Raya, cooperation between local government and the diocesan commissions for socio-economic development should be tightened. “This includes organizing groups of poor and marginalized people,” he said.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
