The day prior to Mother Teresa's canonization, hundreds of young Catholic and Protestant Bangladeshis paid homage to the nun who lived and died for the "salvation and sanctification of the poorest of the poor."
About 500 youths attended the program organized by Magis Bangla, a Jesuit-run youth movement, at the community Center in Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tejgaon, central Dhaka on Sept. 3.
Reflecting on the life of Mother Teresa, the program included short plays, dance routines and music.
Ashish Richard Gomes, 21, a graduate university student, said the program was a moving experience.
"I only knew a little bit about Mother Teresa, but here I realized what an outstanding life of service she lived," Gomes said.
"If we can all follow her example with whatever we have there would be no hungry people in the world, no child would sleep on the road and no child would be deprived of education," he said.
Jesuit Father Pradeep Perez said he hoped more young people would learn of Mother Teresa and follow her example.
"We all can do something for the downtrodden — this is the value we would like to inspire in young people," said Father Perez.
