The Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific held its biannual meeting of major superiors on the Korean island province of Jeju and pledged to help preserve the earth and its ecology.

At the July 18–22 meeting, attendees discussed the pastoral activities of Jesuits in the region. The Jesuits superiors said reconciliation with the environment was a matter of urgency.

They prioritized raising awareness about ecology and the environment, praising God's creation and educating children about the issue.

They also shared their activities that sought to cope with migration problems and on ways to empower youth ministry.

The 21 participants listened to a lecture by Peter Kang U-il of Cheju about a protest against a naval base on Jeju Island. The following day, participants visited the village of Gangjeong, which is near the controversial naval facility.

Help UCA News to be independent
Dear reader,
Lent is the season during which catechumens make their final preparations to be welcomed into the Church.
Each year during Lent, UCA News presents the stories of people who will join the Church in proclaiming that Jesus Christ is their Lord. The stories of how women and men who will be baptized came to believe in Christ are inspirations for all of us as we prepare to celebrate the Church's chief feast.
Help us with your donations to bring such stories of faith that make a difference in the Church and society.
A small contribution of US$5 will support us continue our mission…
