Holy Cross Archbishop Patrick D’Rozario of Dhaka led a Church delegation yesterday to convey Christmas greetings to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and forge better cooperation between Church and state. Archbishop D’Rozario, who assumed office on October 22 and was greeted with a public reception earlier this month, told ucanews.com that he felt it was necessary to meet the prime minister after taking the reins in Dhaka archdiocese. “I realized that it was important to make a courtesy visit to the prime minister, not only just to pass on Christmas greetings but also to let her know as the archbishop what role I can play for the country,” said the prelate. “I also suggested PM on possible to continue interreligious dialogue, eradicate poverty and extending basic primary education.” Among the delegates were auxiliary Holy Cross Bishop Theotonius Gomes of Dhaka, Catholic Education Board secretary Holy Cross Brother Harold Bijoy Rodrigues and Major General (retired) John Gomes. Archbishop D’Rozario also sought assistance in the launch of the first Church-run university in the country. Hasina extended her Christmas greetings to the Christian community and assured the prelate that the government would help with the university. “The government is determined to ensure complete religious freedom. I appreciate your efforts in inter-faith dialogue,” Hasina said during the public visit. Related report Dhaka welcomes new archbishopCatholics plan to run University
