Aquino urged to reject clause in reproduction bill

PHILIPPINES: A Catholic bishop today called on President Benigno Aquino III to reject the use of “abortifacient” being pushed in a controversial reproductive health bill due to be presented to Congress. Retired Bishop Teodoro Bacani made the call following the announcement by the presidential palace on Jan. 19 that the bill is one of 12 priority measures Aquino will be pushing Congress to pass. An abortifacient is a substance that induces abortion. Bishop Bacani urged Aquino to be extra careful in supporting the measure because it has “sneaky provisions” that promotes abortion. PR12940.1637
