  • For peace in Yemen

    March 15, 2017

Yemen has been caught up in a civil war that has killed about 10,000 people since hostilities broke out in March 2015. Dominic Ryan, an Australian artist, recently visited war-torn Aden to erect 50 meters of messages including a declaration for peace, something which he has done in war zones since 1994 in an effort to foster and facilitate peace negotiations between countries and warring groups. Indian Catholics too are praying for peace in Yemen and are continuing the chorus of pleas for peace and the release of Salesian Father Tom Uzhunnalil kidnapped by suspected Islamic militants in Yemen last March. The 58-year-old Salesian missionary was abducted from the Missionaries of Charity home for the aged in Aden after militants shot and killed 16 people, including four nuns. At present it is unclear who carried out the killings, but it is suspected the gunmen were members of al-Qaida or the so called Islamic State. (Photos supplied by Dominic Ryan)
