  • Life after Super Typhoon Haima

    November 22, 2016

Super Typhoon Haima left four regions in the northern Philippines devastated in late October. Initial reports from disaster authorities placed the damage caused by the super typhoon at over US$14 million.    At least 16 people were reported dead while a total of 29,533 families or 116,826 people were accommodated in 1,095 evacuation centers while some sought shelter in churches.   Clearing operations in road sections and bridges were ongoing as well as restoration of power supply and communication lines. Power interruptions were still being experienced in 160 cities and municipalities in the four affected regions.   Caritas, the social action arm of the Catholic bishops' conference, has already released emergency funds to support ongoing relief operations for communities affected by the typhoon.   Photos and text by Angie de Silva
