Flanked by clergymen in purple robes, as well as crowds of spectators, a statue of Jesus Christ carrying the cross was solemnly conveyed through Macau’s historic streets this year
This annual event which has taken place since 1708 is now part of Macau’s intangible heritage. The procession resumed in 2023 after a three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year’s procession overlapped with Macau’s Lunar New Year celebrations — highlighting the city’s rich and multicultural heritage.
