'Missionaries of mercy' gather in Manila

Some 6,000 devotees and supporters of the Divine Mercy from some 40 countries gathered in Manila and nearby provinces for a five-day congress and pilgrimage from Jan. 16-20.

Known as the foremost Catholic country in Southeast Asia, the Philippines presented the gathering as a "pilgrimage of Mercy" by bringing the delegates to "holy places" every day during the week.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of Manila, who opened the international congress, encouraged delegates to continue sharing Jesus to the world and become disciples of God's mercy.

The World Apostolic Congress on Mercy was first held at the Vatican in 2008.
