A weeklong festival in the southern Philippine city of Davao in Mindanao is a mixture of religious and cultural rituals.
The "Kadayawan" is a feast of thanksgiving for "the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest, and the serenity of living."
The festival derives its name from the friendly greeting "Madayaw", from the word "dayaw", meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful.
It is held every third week of August and is a colorful celebration of street dances, performances and rituals.
