The Our Lady of Fatima is fervently venerated by Catholics in Macau due to its colonial connection with Portuguese. A huge procession takes place annually on May 13. The procession usually begins at the St. Domingo's Church and ends with a eucharistic Benediction and open-air Mass at the Our Lady of Penha Church.
Since this year was the centenary of the apparition of the Our Lady of Fatima, and with more pilgrims expected, the venue has moved to the Our Lady of Nativity Cathedral. More than 4,000 pilgrims took part in the procession, which was about 1,000 more than earlier years.
Macau has a population of 648,000 with 29,000 of them Catholics.
