Jesus statue on display in historic city
A five meter high statue of Jesus Christ is currently standing next to a historic monument in Xi’an, provincial capital of Shaanxi.
The statue of Jesus in a long robe with hands outstretched, imitating the one in Rio de Janeiro, is standing in the World Expo section of an annual lantern festival that runs to February 21.
It is taking place next to the historical city wall of Xi’an, which was built as a fortification during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
This is the first time a Christian image has been on display since the festival’s inception 17 years ago.
