Police worry about magnet bombs

Attaching a bomb to a car poses a new problem for security forces, police said today.

Referring to an attack on a diplomatic car of the Israeli embassy in New Delhi on February 13, Kiran Bedi said law enforcement agencies worldwide will have to work together as a global village as such incidents are “cause-related and not country-specific.”

A motorcyclist attached a magnetic device to the car while it was waiting at a traffic signal and a few seconds later it exploded, injuring four people, including the wife of Israel’s defense attaché.

Federal Home Minister P Chidambaram said the diplomat’s wife was apparently the target but refused to name any terror group for carrying out the strike.
