Leaders back anti-corruption drive
Church leaders met yesterday with new leaders of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to show their support for the commission’s efforts.
One of them, executive secretary of the Commission for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs, Father Antonius Benny Susetyo, said the meeting aimed “to strengthen KPK so that it has courage to save this nation from the deterioration of public civilization.”
He said corruption cases have harmed national life. “They violate human rights. They have made this nation poor,” he said, mentioning policies taken in agrarian affairs and mining projects as creating a circle of violence.
“(KPK) needs strength. That is why the religious leaders give their support and spirituality so as to encourage KPK to act bravely,” he continued.
