Bishop warns against affairs, divorce

Divine Word Bishop Hilarius Moa Nurak of Pangkalpinang, capital of Bangka-Belitung province, yesterday reminded Catholic couples of family issues that might threaten their marriage life.
“Never think that affairs and divorces are faced only by non-Catholic couples. The presence of another woman or man in a marriage life seems to have contaminated Catholic families. You must be aware,” he told about 150 members of the diocese’s Marriage Encounter that attended this movement’s first Lustrum.
The prelate and three priests, including Vicar General Father Fransiskus Xaverius Hendrawinata, concelebrated a Mass to open the program.
Besides affairs and divorces, Bishop Nurak also mentioned thrift, parents’ and relatives’ involvement, and living apart as other family issues.
Therefore, he said, all priests dealing with pastoral care of the family must pay serious attention to Catholic couples so as to help them grow well in faith.
“Catholic families must proclaim the Good News to all people wherever they live and work,” he maintained.
