Lodging house bomb kills three
Three people were killed and 27 injured when a bomb exploded at a lodging house full of wedding guests in Zamboanga City yesterday, officials have said.
Two people died instantly, while the body of another victim was found today pinned under concrete slabs on the ground floor of the Atilano lodging house in Canelar village, said Zamboanga City mayor, Celso Lobregat.
Investigators said the bomb, which was planted in one of the rooms of the two-story lodging house, exploded around 9:25 pm (1:25pm GMT).
“It wasn’t an ordinary bomb because flames resulted immediately. It appears to have been an incendiary device. There are already three [persons] dead,” said Lobregat.
Police initially reported two deaths.
It was a very powerful blast the major said, adding that it blew off the roof and caused the second floor to collapse.
Many of the guests were staying at the lodging house ahead of a wedding due to take place today.
Most of the injured, two of whom are in a serious condition, are from Basilan and Zamboanga del Sur provinces, according to hospital officials.
No one as yet has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The bombing comes as Mindanao Christians and Muslims celebrates their annual “Week of Peace” celebrations that started on November 24 and ends on Wednesday.
