The secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, Mgr Paul Tighe, recently attended a seminar in India on the role of new media and communications in seminary formation. (Vatican Radio)

The four-day meeting in Calcutta included talks as well as practical training sessions and began with a Mass at the tomb of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.

Msg Tighe told Philippa Hitchen about the goals of the seminar and why the ‘saint of the gutter’ can be seen as an icon for the world of media and communications.

YES!!!, MOTHER TERESA WAS TRULY AN “ICON OF COMMUNICATION”. THE GREATEST MISSIONARY THAT EVER LIVED. SHE INFLUENCED PEOPLE OF ALL WALKS OF LIFE AND ALL RELIGIONS TO GIVE OF THEIR BEST TO THE POOREST. HER DEEP CONVICTION AND LOVE FOR HOLY MOTHER CHURCH MADE HER WHAT SHE WAS AND IS. HER WORK FOR THE HELPLESS GIVES HER FIRST PLACE AMONG THE SAINTS FOR HER WHOLE LIFE WAS SPENT TOUCHING THE BROKEN BODY OF CHRIST IN THE POOREST,THE RICH AND EVERY PERSON SHE CAME IN CONTACT WITH.
