Rebels fight for past agreements

The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has called on the government to respect the agreements reached with the rebel group in the past 14 years of peace negotiations.
Al-Haj Murad Ebrahim, MILF chairman, said on September 5 that the rebel group wants the peace process to move forward and “the only way to do this is to respect all past agreements we already have signed.”
“We do not want another deadlock,” said Murad during a press conference he said was part of “maintaining dialogue with you so that through you the public will be kept informed not only of the policies and programs of the MILF but also of the continuing search for peace in the Bangsamoro homeland.”
The rebel leader said failure to respect and honor past agreements would bring process back to square one.
