A Catholic school has won an award in a government scheme to promote sustainability and environmental awareness.
The establishment, called The Roman Catholic School, received a silver award Wednesday at the ceremony organised by the Central Environmental Authority.
“People have begun to think more about environmental conservation. Our staff and children are nature lovers. They work hard to stop environmental pollution,” said the school’s Holy Family Sister Ann Catherine Perera.
She explained the school’s policy was to “never burn garbage and follow three rules; reduce, reuse and recycle the environment to make composted fertilizer.”
