Vandals desecrated a Syro-Malankara Catholic church in Pune on August 15, burning the altar

The desecration of a sub-station of a Syro-Malankara Catholic church in Maharashtra state on Monday could have been the work of devil worshippers, Church officials said yesterday.

Several people “broke into our church in Warje Malwadi in the small hours on Independence Day, vandalized the altar, burnt the tabernacle, as well as tearing up the Bible and prayer books,” said Father Varghese Valikodath, who is in charge of the church in Pune.

The Holy Eucharist was not kept in the tabernacle as priests don’t reside there, said Father Valikodath, who is also the parish priest of St Mary’s Malankara Church in Khadki, in Pune.

Police investigating the crime have launched a manhunt for the culprits.

According to Father Valikodath, the alarm was raised at around 6:30am on Monday by the secretary of the church, who found the front door, terrace door and windows broken open.

Paintings of Jesus, Mother Mary and other saints were vandalized and the words “Satan is God” were written on the walls and some of the paintings, he said.

The priest said robbery was not the motive as collection money and valuables were not stolen.

“It could be some devil-worshipping group,” he said.

Yesterday, a Holy Mass was celebrated, purification prayers were said and the premises were blessed, Father Valikodath said.

Local Catholics were quick to condemn the vandalism.

“This is the first attack on the Catholic Church in Pune and we condemn the desecration of a place of worship,” said Diago Almeida, president of the Catholic Association of Pune.

Seeing the Tabernacle burned makes my heart hurt. Lord, have Mercy! St. Michael, defend us. Amen.

Please God, save the fools who call their destroyer god… We only have one God-our creator. Calling a chair god won’t make it god. Satan is not a creator he is the destroyer. God created us to be loved and happy forever with him and with His many gifts. Satan seeks to destroy us-God’s creation-through his endless deception and temporary favors. Please God wake them up!

I am not Catholic but it saddens me to see such senseless and lawless behavior.  May G-d and his holy angels defend his faithful, wherever in the world they may be.

Things such as this are exactly what the Bible says will occur before the return of Jesus. Time is near.

    This is a global problem.

Sometimes we are the congregation are the problem.  If we do not visit our local churches we allow the evil doers access to our place of worship.

read john ch 6.  question it.  pray over it. It’s why we are called to be Catholic.  Jesus let many disciples walk away that day……they didn’t believe.

Guest… you read the Bible and see who St Michael was. Don’t you ask your pastor to pray for you???? And he is not even a Saint.. yet! Instead of praying for your brothers and sisters in the Catholic church you are using this sad event as a way of trying to ” save” Catholics! You born agains just won’t let up, would you? Jesus is so sad at how you persecute the very church He founded. ” Saul, saul.. why do you persecute me?” Just take Saul’s name and add yours! Pray for your fellow Christians dear Guest.. that is all we Catholics ask at this time. No other Christian denomination gives us Jesus really and truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. If you care to find out, you will discover the number of conversions that have taken place due to the miracles of the Holy Eucharist. I myself have experienced it.
    God bless you

The Catholic Church is the one, true faith.  It is the Church established by Jesus Christ when he told Peter, “you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church.”

Peter has had successors to this day.  We call them popes.  Benedict XVI is the current successor of Peter.

Jesus told us only those who eat his flesh and drink his blood will have life.  He instituted the holy Eucharist when He took the bread and said take and eat.  This is My Body, which will be given up for you.  Do this in remembrance of me–and when He took the wine and said take and drink.  This is My Blood, blood of the new covenant.  It will be shed for you and for many.  Do this in remembrance of me.

Only the Catholic Church has this Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist and believes Jesus when He said it is His Body & Blood.  Others deny this truth.

I choose to believe Christ.  I choose to obey Him and eat His flesh and drink His blood in the form of Holy Communion in remembrance of Him.

Heavenly Father, may the love of Christ enter the hearts of the vandals and His truth open their eyes.  May they repent and convert to the faith of Christ.  I ask in Jesus’ name, Your only begotten Son, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever.  Amen.

St. Michael The Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host – by the Divine Power of God cast into hell, satan and all evil spirits, who roam around the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

They will pay for their atrocities when they cross over; we all have to answer to God; nobody excapes His judgment.

One thing I will comment on is the lack of charity(love) sent to Roman Catholics by our Protestant brethren. Jesus said to love one another, not criticize one another. I am in complete agreement on the comments re: Holy Eucharist.  This comes from a convert from protestantism who is a Minister of Holy Communion as well.   Peace to all including all non believers!!
