The Catholic Council of Bishops of Madhya Pradesh in India have expressed reservations against the state school education department’s move to introduce concepts related to Hinduism in schools and to ban the use of neckties as part of school uniform, reports the Deccan Chronicle.

The Madhya Pradesh government is seeking to introduce ‘Gita Sar’ (essence or gist of Gita) and other practices such as the “suryanamaskar”, or sun salutations.

The Madhya Pradesh Catholic Council on Sunday passed a resolution demanding that unnecessary interference in the working of institutions being run by the Christian minorities should be stopped.

The resolution goes on to say that the Madhya Pradesh school education department is trying to divide the people, and should instead focus on improving the quality of education.
