Divine Word Bishop Gerulfus Kherubim Pareira of Maumere told members of the Forum of Human Rights today that priests serving in his diocese should address acts of corruption in their sermons.

“It would be good if local priests in their homilies can mention a little bit about injustice done by the local government or law enforcement officers to local people,” he said today.

“By doing so, local people will have a better understanding about what is right and what is wrong.”

Bishop Pareira also urged rights group members to defend those facing human rights abuses.

“If there is a person facing a problem, please do not bring the case directly to the court. You should try to deal with the issue first. A legal process should be the last choice,” he said, adding that the country’s courts have failed to deliver justice.
