Christians aid trafficking victims

Christian groups have helped rescue three Filipino victims of human trafficking, an official of the central province of Aklan said on Wednesday.
Lawyer Chris Gonzales, spokesman of the provincial human trafficking and illegal recruitment task force, said the Filipino Catholic community in Fiji and Aglipayan missionaries in South Africa aided the victims.
A group of Aglipayan missionaries in Cape Town found one of the victims while Filipinos in Fiji found the other two and coordinated with the task force.
Gonzales said the provincial task force has already repatriated four victims of human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
“We are still looking for one more victim, while we do not discount the possibility of new victims coming out in the future,” Gonzales said.
The task force has sued a recruitment agency in Manila and a local agent for illegal recruitment and human trafficking.
