Franciscan Father Martinus Harun earlier this week urged parents to teach their children about the Bible and help them make the scriptures the foundation of their lives at a seminar in the hall of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Tangerang, Banten.

“The condition here is that parents invite their children to read the Bible, tell them its contents, do activities related to the stories of Jesus mentioned in the Gospel,” Father Martinus, of the Jesuit-run Driyarkara School of Philosophy in Jakarta, told about 170 attendees of the seminar.

“Parents must be creative in using modern communication media in order to make it easier for them to do evangelization”

Stefania Mariete Irma, 40, who attended the seminar, said teaching her children the scriptures poses a daunting challenge for some parents.

“I am busy with my household work. And I do not have the patience to teach my children.”
