Judge issues warrant for Goa priest
An arrest warrant has been issued against a former parish priest for non-appearance in court in the Ribandar Church case.
The judge has directed that Father Newton Rodrigues appear in court on June 14 in the case relating to a “disturbance” during a parish church committee meeting in 2004.
The unrest was triggered after the parish priest was accused of molesting a 13-year-old parishioner. But the alleged victim and her mother withdrew the allegation, claiming it to be false, and all charges against Father Newton were dropped. However, the case against him for rioting and disturbance went to court.
Father Rodrigues, the former parish priest of Our Lady of Help Church in Ribandar, is currently working in a parish in Canada.
