Thousands run against hunger

More than 3,000 people pounded the streets of Pasay City recently in a bid to call attention to the fight against hunger in conflict-plagued south of the country.
Some participants walked two kilometers while others ran in five or 10 km races in the United Nations World Food Program’s annual campaign against child hunger and malnutrition called “Walk the World – Pilipinas.”
Proceeds from the event, which was financed by multinational companies and sponsored by the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, will support more than 80,000 schoolchildren in 300 schools in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur. The campaign, which is a global effort, was also held in 79 other countries, according to organizers.
