Dogs tear off priest’s ear

A priest who was helping conduct post-Easter house blessings lost his ear when three dogs attacked him at a parishioner’s house in south Goa.
The Divine Word (SVD) priest, Father Manuel Pereira, belongs to a parish in Indore but had come to Goa on holiday.
He was rushed to hospital, bleeding profusely.
The ear was reattached, but it is uncertain whether the priest would regain the use of the organ as it was brought to the hospital some 45 minutes after the doctors first treated him.
Father Manuel Rodrigues, assistant parish priest of St Lawrence Church, Agassiam, said dogs have become a major social as well as a spiritual nuisance and priests often have greeted parishioners with “have you tied the dog” rather than “how are you.”
