Young people learn through bazaars

A four-day bazaar that ended yesterday, featuring a variety of goods at knock-down prices, has helped young parishioners in East Nusa Tenggara province boost their business skills.

The bazaar held in the compound of St. Mary Immaculate Cathedral Church Atambua by the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Movement of the Holy Spirit, sold homemade cakes, snacks and meals as well as spare motorcycle parts.

“This program was very beneficial for young parishioners, because we were taught to manage our money. We also learned about financial management in business,” said one participant, Yanuarius Cornelius Sampel.

He also said the bazaar helped young parishioners develop their creativity.

“This was not only about buying and selling things,” he continued.

Mikael Tanjung, one of the organizers, agreed.

He said the event was at boosting skills and creativity in young people.

“It is about how we can contribute to young people so that they can develop themselves,” the businessman continued.

Meanwhile, Father Emanuel Siki, the cathedral’s assistant priest, said this sort of event should be held again in the future.

“Young people’s participation is needed in such programs as part of their development,” he said.
