Bishop John Tong of Hong Kong has announced that 3,400 catechumens will be baptized at Easter this year.
This is “a noteworthy increase from the 3,040 from last year,” Bishop Tong told a gathering of laity, Fides reports.
In recent times more than 2,000 have been baptized each year in the Diocese of Hong Kong.
Last year for the first time, the number rose above 3,000.
Currently the diocese’s faithful counts 356,000 members, equivalent to 5% of the Island’s population.
