Thieves clean out church donation box
St. William Cathedral of Laoag
PHILIPPINES: A donation box has been stolen from the St. William Cathedral in Laoag City, northern Philippines. Churchgoers said they were shocked to find the box forcibly opened and empty. It is unknown how much money was taken.
Geronimo Urduja, the guard on duty, refused to talk to reporters about the incident. Church officials said the cathedral’s rector, Father Policarpio Albano, is out of town for a retreat. City police chief Sterling Blanco said the robbery could have been perpetrated by a "church insider" or a churchgoer familiar with the content of the box.
"I was surprised why someone would do it. The person who did it has no fear in God," said Maryann Ramos, a churchgoer.
