After its decades-long one-child policy, China is trying to make up for its aging population by encouraging women to have more babies, but only certain kinds of women can enjoy that privilege.
The latest five-year plan contains population policy-based eugenics, which seeks to improve the quality of the population by selectively mating people with specific desirable hereditary traits.
The 14th five-year plan that will run from 2021-25 aims to “optimize birth policy” and “improve the quality of the population,” a China scholar said recently.
“I am actually very worried,” Columbia professor Leta Hong Fincher told a virtual event by the Center for International and Strategic Studies last week.
