A Catholic hospital in Daejeon, Korea, is now the second largest hospital in the city after four years of reconstruction and renovation work.

Daejeon St. Mary’s Hospital now has 674 beds, a special building for elderly patients and 1,000 staff after the rebuilding work ended recently.

Bishop Lazzaro You Heung-sik of Daejeon blessed the hospital on July 14 and prayed that patients would be able to experience the love of God and the Blessed Mother during their stay here.

The hospital has remodeled its wards, introduced state-of-the-art equipment, and constructed a special building for medical lecturers and a dormitory for nurses.

Hospital authorities declined to reveal the cost of the renovations, which started in January 2006.

The hospital, which is affiliated to the Catholic University of Korea, first opened in 1969. It is now the second largest hospital in the Daejeon Metropolitan City after a hospital affiliated to a national university.
